Criteria for Certification
PART 1
Academic Criteria:
The following academic criteria are recognized for scoring: higher university postgraduate degrees; Doctoral diplomas, Ph.D (granted on the basis of a dissertation). : publications score 1 mark for each paper for which the candidate is the first author, and 1/2 mark for each paper of the candidate if the candidate is not the first author. Only papers that are published in national or international journals can be recognized. Scores for presentations and CME, see below. For documentation, the candidate has to submit in electronic form only the first page of the publication, presentation and CME.
The marks will be awarded as follows:

Clinical Activity:
This will be the Assessment of operations performed by the candidate since specialist recognition was granted. They will be assessed as major , intermediate or minor operations. The list of operation categories (Open Operation Category) classified into major and intermediate is available at the link provided. The Logbook must document the operations by these criteria. For the obligatory documentation of the minor operations, a summary sheet signed by the Head of the Department is required.
It is anticipated that candidates occasionally will need to seek advice as to how certain uncommon operations should be classified. The Scientific Committee of EBOMFS will provide this information. Each operation is to be registered only once — even if multiple procedures are involved.
The marks will be awarded as follows:

1. 48 or more major operations will earn:
(each operation is worth 0.25 marks up to 48 marks)

PART 2
The MCQ examination and the Oral examination:
The Examination (Part 2) of the EBOMFS RQ Assessment consists of a written (MCQ) and an Oral Examination.

The candidate eligible for fellowship has to pass both parts of the assessment.
Final marks:

A) Curriculum vitae / Logbook (Academic Criteria plus Clinical Activity ) carries a maximum possible score of 60 marks.

B) Oral Assessment + MCQ carries a maximum possible score of 40 marks.

To pass the RQ Assessment, the candidate needs at least

The performance rating will be the joint decision of the three examiners of the jury together with members of the Scientific Committee of the Board, and the decision will be final.
FEBOMFS
Fellow of the European Board of Oro-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (FEBOMFS)
Candidates who have passed the Oral examination (Part 2) will be issued a certificate by the EBOMFS and may use the title Fellow of the European Board of Oro-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (FEBOMFS).
